Adding a control point not working?

I am not getting the “add” option when I click and hold on the line. I get the green dots on the corners but not any option to add one. In the help section the “add a control point” instructions mention a dotted line to use to add a control point but i dont get a dotted line either. I’m stuck :frowning:
